Working Principle of 1N4007 Module Circuit

The working principle of a full wave rectifier circuit is simple. It converts an alternating current (AC) input into a direct current (DC) output. The circuit consists of four diodes (D1 to D4) arranged in a configuration called a diode bridge or a bridge rectifier.

When the AC input source, typically obtained from a transformer secondary, is provided to the circuit, the diode bridge rectifies both the positive and negative halves of the AC cycle. This rectification process ensures a continuous flow of current in a single direction. The positive and negative half-cycle outputs from the diode bridge are then combined at the output.

However, the output still contains some AC ripple due to the slight difference in peak values between the positive and negative half-cycles. To reduce this ripple and obtain a smoother DC output, a filter capacitor (C1) is connected in parallel to the output. The capacitor stores charge during the peak voltage portions of the AC input and releases it during the lower voltage portions, effectively reducing the ripple.

Moreover, an LED (D5) connected in series with a resistor (R1) can be linked in parallel to the output. This setup serves to indicate the power supply status when the module is turn-ON.

By following this working principle, the circuit board converts the AC input into a relatively smooth DC output.

1N4007 Module Applications

The AC-DC Converter 1N4007 Module is mainly used for the following applications:

  • The module can be used in 6V, 12V Battery Charger circuits.
  • This can include LED lighting systems where the rectifier converts the AC voltage to DC, providing power to the LEDs.
  • It is compatible with Voltage Regulator ICs of 5V, 6V, 9V, 12V, 18V, and 24V after making certain modifications.
  • Also, used for identifying the amplitude of modulating radio signal.
